Ranma games pic

Frank/Ryoga PicRanma 1/2's popularity in Japan had been such that several video games were made by Shogakukan and Rumic Soft for the Super Famicom, Mega Drive, GameBoy, Sony Playstation, and PC Engine systems. Unfortunately, only one game made it over here, under the name "Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle". Still, these games remain as a testament to Ranma 1/2's continuing popularity.

Here you should be able to find information and documents on many of the Ranma 1/2 games, as well as a couple downloadable ROMS of some of the Ranma 1/2 games for use on your PC. Note that in order to run these ROMS, you'll need to have something called an emulator, whcih simulates their respective systems on your PC, i.e. an SNES emulator emulates a Super Famicom or SNES video game system on your computer. I have two emulators here for that purpose, for the SNES and Gameboy ROMS, respectively, and I'm looking for more. You might also need to read Japanese, though I've tried to find some documentation to include on this page for some games.

(Disclaimer/Note: All of these game ROMS were taken off of various sites, Therefore, I take no credit for programming them. Some documentation on the games will lead you to other sites. All Ranma 1/2 games are copyrights of Shogakukan/Kitty, Rumic Soft, and Rumiko Takahashi. These games exist for evaluation purposes only, unless you actually own the cartridge, CD-ROM, etc. By law, you must delete the ROMS you download off of this site within 24 hours. Do not link to these without asking me first.)

Much of the information on this page has been taken from Al's Ranma 1/2 Video Game Page. All documentation has been gathered from various sites. Any addition of information is greatly appreciated, just Mail me with any questions, additions, or concerns about these ROMS. All Emulators contain pertinent documentation, so please read appropriate Read Me files before playing.

Ranma 1/2 Game Boy Puzzle game

Description: This one's kind of like a maze/interaction game, kind of like a cross between Zelda and Final Fantasy Legend. You're Ranma, and basically you have to move around, trying to find the way out, and occasionally fighting. Sometimes if you're changed by water (yes, there's water ^_^) you won't have to fight. I couldn't even get past level two, like Al. ^_^

"Ranma 1/2" (?)

(written by Al Fong)
Really cute looking, simple puzzle/maze game where you have to push blocks around and avoid people (everyone, except Akane). Also, did I mention... water? (hint hint =) What kind of Ranma 1/2 game would this be without water? When Ranma-kun pushes blocks, he sends them flying across the screen. When Ranma-chan pushes blocks, it moves only one space (BTW, watch out for the water-throwing panda ^_^). Every level has a ribbon, a bonnet, and a pair of gloves (which counts as one object) hidden somewhere and you have to break (or sometimes, match) blocks to get to them. After getting all three items, you have to catch up with Akane, who is running around somewhere...

"Ranma 1/2 Kakugeki Mondou!!"

(written by Al Fong)
Ack! A fighting/quiz game. Basically, you go around building up your character, gaining experience points by fighting people (strategy fighting... like in Final Fantasy-style RPGs, but you have to assign power for offense and defense like in Dragon BallZ-style video games) or doing quizes on events from TV episodes of Ranma 1/2 (that's usually a problem if you can't read Japanese!!! =(... Has a password system to keep your progress... (hope you know how to write Hirgana legibly ^_^)

Super Famicom/SNES

(Note: Some games may crash on the SNES9x emulator. Thus, I've included two for downloading.)

"Ranma 1/2 Chougi Rambuhen (Super Skill Wild Dance Chapter)"

This one's the first Ranma fighting game made for the SNES. It features characters such as Mousse, Ryouga, Akane, and both versions of Ranma and appears to have a "tag team" and "VS" Mode as well. Unfortunately as Ranma I was only able to get to the third stage or so, where I was promptly whooped by Kunou. Frankly, the CPU engine is pretty tough and uses a lot of anti-air moves, so you really have to be careful. It's a pretty fair game for its time, though.

"Ranma 1/2 Bakuretsu Rantou-hen (Hard Battle)"

Hard Battle is the only Ranma 1/2 game (for now) to be released here in the US. The voices are obviously not Viz actors, and they do sound a little choppy, but at least you can hear some of the moves being called out, like "Hiryu Shoten Ha" and "Shishi Hokoudan". There are ten characters: Ranma-kun, Ranma-chan, Akane, Shampoo, Ukyou, Mousse, Genma-panda, Ryouga, and Gambler King . The boss is Pansuto Tarou, who you have to fight twice (once as human, once as bull/yati/eel). You can play as either form of Tarou once you beat the game with anyone, and if you beat the game with Tarou, Happosai is your boss, and you can play as him, too (with a special code). This is strangely, the game which got me (Frank Sanchez) hooked totally on Ranma 1/2 - it's probably one of the main reasons this page exists. ^_^

"Ranma 1/2 Akaneko-dan teki Hihou (Hidden Treasure of the Crimson Cats)"

A cute looking RPG-type game, but I agree with Al..the graphics could have been a lot better. Still, if you like RPG's, it's an ok game to play. Apparently, Ranma is tossed into another dimension while in pursuit of Crimson Cats Gang. Characters come and go, but Ranma is always part of your group, of course. ^_^ Akane, Mousse, and Shampoo, are among your companions in the game. I highly suggest you read or save the FAQ to your hard drive - unless you can read Japanese. ^_-

"Ranma 1/2 Chougi Rambuhen (Super Skill Wild Dance Chapter)"

(review written by Al Fong)
One word. Cool. Graphics nicer than the previous two fighting games. Although slower than Hard Battle and Neighbourhood Combat, the game surpasses them in all other areas. Twelve characters: Ranma-kun, Ranma-chan, Ryouga, Moose, Shampoo, Ukyou, Akane, Mariko, Genma-panda, Kunou, Kodachi, Hinako (actually thirteen. The boss is also usable in this game). Herb is the boss in this one. Each character has two or three special moves and one super move which can be done when he/she is powered up (powering up makes you vulnerable to attack, though). This game was to be released in late '94 or early '95 using Viz dubbed voices, but was canceled due to ToHo's poor sells of the Ultraman game that was released about a half year earlier. ToHo didn't want to lose any more money on importing japanese anime games to North America that would not be a hot seller and there were already too many fighting games (like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat) that had the North American video game market beyond the saturation point.

"Ranma 1/2 Ougijaanken" (?)

(review written by Al Fong)
Relatively new, pretty neat puzzle game... if they've got puzzle games like Dr. Mario, Columns, and Baku-Baku, why not make one for Ranma 1/2? Four different types of "tiles"- rock (red fist), scissors (blue "peace" symbol), paper (yellow palm), and "bubbles". The general idea behind the game is simple- rock-scissors-paper... putting a rock on top of a scissor would beat the scissors, a paper beats rock, etc. Whenever a "reaction" is made, the adjacent "bubbles" disappear (allowing for chain-reactions). After a certain number of chain-reactions, characters execute special techniques (like Ranma's "kachuu tenshin amaguriken". Six playable characters in the game as far as I know: Ranma, Akane, Ryouga, Shampoo, Moose, and Genma. Each character has different offense, defense, attack, and speed ratings, giving certain advantages or disadvantages in gameplay. The Gambler King is also in this game as a boss, but as of writing time, there aren't any codes available (sorry). Game also has water (which reduces the offensive capability of a "cursed" person and helps in getting rid of blocks in tight spots), versus mode, and a "story" game (Ryouga's on the moon! ).

"Ranma 1/2 Byakuran Aika (White Orchid Serenade)"

Never played this one. Heard it's a digital comic. Soundtrack from the game is "Ranma 1/2 Denshi yuugi ongaku-shuu (Electronic Game Music Collection)"

"Ranma 1/2 Fighting Renaissance"

This one looks and sort of plays like Tekken 2, with Jusenkyo effects. ^_-; What I mean is the game craftily has something which I think is called "weather effects", which, if turned on, can activate Jusenkyo curses on your characters if you're playing with such characters - so look out. ^_^ Eight characters: Ranma, Akane, Happousai, Kunou, Ryu Kumon, Genma, Shampoo, and Ryouga. I'm not sure if getting cursed is an advantage, though you're probably faster as neko-Shampoo and P-chan, and bigger or faster in Genma and Ranma's cases, respectively. Frankly, I just think it's for the satisfaction of the die-hards who can beat the game as P-chan..^_^;;;

Miscellaneous

"Akane's Revenge"

I thought this one was very cute when I played it. It's a freelance programmer's idea of a game, and it plays a little like Galaga or Invaders (I hope I don't have to tell ya what those games are about ^_^), only with a twist - you play as an SD Akane (you may recognize the image) throwing mallets at various enemies (Happosai, Azusa, etc.). When you kill all the enemies, you go on. It's kind of easy going until the third stage (Cologne). It's got catchy music (especially first stage) and there's a password feature, but I've never figured out how to use it. Oh, and once you start "New Game", you have to press either "Shift" or "CTRL" or "Space Bar" to start the actual game. A must have for Akane fans. You don't need any Emulators or anything to play this little game - just download and unzip.

"Ranma Tarot Applet"

This one's a simple Java applet which tells your fortune via a "Tarot deck" filled with a cards which relate to various Ranma 1/2 characters. Not quite that interesting in my opinion, but worth checking out for a couple of seconds. The link below is not a download - it just links you to the page where the applet is located.

Go to the Ranma Tarot Applet

Ranma Concentration

This one's a Ranma version of Concentration, a memory game in which you turn over cards one at a time trying to find pairs. When you find a pair, you take out those two cards. The goal is to get all the pairs in as little tries as possible. My record is 33 tries, but I'm sure you all can get lower than that ^_^. A good time killer, if nothing else.

Shampoo Puzzle game

This one's also simple - there's a fragmented pic of Shampoo. Click "Scramble" and the pieces are scrambled up, with your job being to reconstruct the Chinese Amazon's lovely face. ^_^ The only thing you need to know is that the window for the game opens up a little low on Windows 95 systems, obscuring the Scrambling buttons. Just move the window up so you can start. Another simple time killer, nothing more.
